Chasing away the winter blues!
Last Friday, despite chilly conditions, over 20 young people turned up at Freuchie Cricket Club to take part in free winter coaching. This is overseen by professional coaches, volunteers and senior members looking to work towards a coaching qualification.
Flood lights shone down not only on existing cricketing juniors but new hopefuls keen to learn and participate in this popular Scottish sport.
Club President, Robbie Birrell said “The club is committed to working with children & young people and it’s this new initiative from the 5 year plan that the club is concentrating on over the next 6 months, leading up to the new 2019 season in April. The young people are the club’s future. It is vitally important that the club invests not only money, but time, commitment and effort”.
He went on to say “the senior players, coaches, mentors & volunteers will continue to offer sporting advice and encouragement throughout the year and will continue to enthuse learning and inspire the up and coming young talent.
Monetary support from Fife Company, Smith Anderson, was greatly welcomed by the club’s management team. President Robbie Birrell again went on to say “support from companies within Fife is integral to the future success and growth of the club”
Over recent months, the club has embarked on a programme of increasing the number of its coaches as well as encouraging current coaches to upskill their coaching qualifications. This increase in numbers will help the club expand its youth coaching programme and will allow it to work with schools and youth groups throughout North East Fife.
Free winter coaching is every Friday within the flood lit grounds of Freuchie Cricket Club. The sessions run from 6 .30pm until 8pm.
Young existing cricketers and youngsters who want to know about the game are encouraged to come along on Friday…………………”Everything you don’t know is something you can learn”
